FILOX R MEDIA
Iron, Manganese & Hydrogen Sulphide Removal
Filox-R media works by catalytic oxidation. Its excellent catalytic properties mean that it can often be used without any additional oxidation depending on the presence of dissolved oxygen in the water. However, even with enough dissolved oxygen present in the water (higher than -170 milivolts) it is recommended to use additional oxidising agents (such as oxygen, ozone, chlorine, hydrogen peroxide or potassium permanganate) for improved performance.
Feedwater Requirements
Filox-R requires a pH of 7 or more for iron removal and a pH of 8 or more for manganese removal. The media gives a high flow rate and out lasts Birm – but it is heavy and requires a high backwashing flow rate to remove oxidised iron and manganese. The use of oxidising agents is recommended, highly reducing waters may cause premature exhaustion. Below is a summary of the feed water requirements for Filox-R media.
For Iron Removal: Iron content <15 ppm, Oxygen 15% of Iron & Manganese content
For Manganese Removal: Manganese content <3 ppm, Oxygen 15% of Iron & Manganese content
For Hydrogen Sulphide Removal: Hydrogen Sulphide content: <7 ppm
Why Choose Filox-R Media?
- Superior particle strength that holds up with frequent backwashing
- Can be used without additional oxidation in some applications
- High manganese dioxide content (75-85%)
- Up to 7,500x longer lifespan than Birm
- Tolerant to chlorine exposure
ORP over -170mV indicates Filox-R can be used
